The Big Sandy Machine Gun Shoot in Arizona

A long exposure image shows a visitor to the Big Sandy Machine Gun Shoot firing his machine gun as flares, tracer fire, and the moon light up the night sky near Wikieup, Arizona. Twice a year, gun enthusiasts from across the US gather at a remote location in Arizona’s Sonoran Desert for the chance to fire machine guns, anti-aircraft guns, and even a M18 Hellcat tank. In just 48 hours visitors fire off many as 3.5 million rounds, and in the process celebrate a constitutional privilege they hold dear: the right to keep and bear arms.
